Chainsaw Carving Care Instructions
You have purchased a carving that is in "raw" form, meaning no finish has already been applied, here are your instructions:
*after about a week you should start to see very small hairline size checking, this is when you apply the first coat of brush-on polyurethane. the first coat should be applied rather thick. Let it dry for 48 hrs. Then apply a second, and if desired, a third coat. then follow the instructions above for a carving that would have been already treated.
If carving is to be displayed indoors, no special care instructions are required. Place carving on furniture tacks (or carpenter pencils) to allow for an air gap. If you would like your carving to be shinier, apply one coat of brush-on polyurethane with spar. Let dry 48hrs in sun.
If carving is to be displayed on the porch or deck, place 2 carpenter pencils under carving to provide an air gap. Once a year, on a hot summer day, apply a coat of brush-on polyurethane with spar. Let dry 48 Hrs in sun.
If carving is going to be displayed in the yard, put down about 2 inches of gravel under the carving for drainage. Once a year, on a hot summer day, apply a coat of brush-on polyurethane with spar. Let dry for 48 Hrs in the sun.
Disclaimer: if you have ANY questions, or are new to the care of chainsaw carvings, call me at (607) 346-0764. Apply the polyurethane in a well-ventilated area, preferably outdoors. Polyurethane may stain clothing and/or skin and is highly flammable.
